In the last year Heaven’s Basement have been making serious moves into the mainstream rock industry, as evidenced by the sold out, headlining show at Camden Barfly last night. As a band forever doing something different, the opening acts consisted of a freaky circus performance and a charismatic hypnotist. Though daring, the acts went down well with the crowd and provided something a little unique about the show as a whole.

In a genius move, ‘Filthy Empire’ dollars were handed out at the door and could be exchanged for drinks at the bar. Really, now, this gig deserves nothing less than a 10/10 review score, because a freak show, hypnotist, incredible headline show AND free drinks? That is a recipe for nothing short of the best night of your life.

One thing you’ll notice immediately at any Heaven’s Basement show is the eclectic mix of people in the crowd. We spoke to people who had been fans from the very beginning, right through to kids who only discovered the band in the last couple of months in line with single and video releases and brand new exposure. With a crowd as diverse as this one, it would be hard to please everyone with one set list, but as HB official cheerleaders, we were sure they’d manage… and they didn’t disappoint!

With an impressively thorough mix of old and new songs, Heaven’s Basement set out to showcase the best of their upcoming debut album, Filthy Empire (released Feb 4th) and pay respects to the most popular songs from previous EPs. The result? A kick ass show that left the crowd thrilled with classics like ‘Can’t Let Go’ and ‘Reign On My Parade’ and salivating for the new album with teasers like ‘Lights Out In London’ and ‘Jump Back’.

This band is worth seeing again and again.

Overall, 10/10
